Priorities

Every student in Spokane deserves a school that is well-funded, safe, equitable, and fully resourced. Jessica is running for school board to ensure that our education system truly reflects the needs of students, educators, and families—not political convenience or short-term solutions.

Responsible School Funding

Spokane schools deserve funding that reflects the true needs of students and educators—not just temporary fixes or political calculations. Jessica supports sustainable, equitable funding that allows schools to plan long-term, recruit and retain high-quality teachers, and deliver innovative academic programs.

She will:

  • Advocate for increased state funding formulas that reflect actual district needs, including cost of living and student services.

  • Protect Title I and other targeted funds for schools serving students from low-income families.

  • Push for participatory budgeting models that give educators, families, and students a voice in how dollars are spent.

  • Demand transparent reporting so the community understands how every dollar supports learning outcomes.

When funding aligns with student needs—not bureaucratic convenience—our schools can thrive.

Safer Campuses

Jessica believes every child should feel emotionally and physically safe at school. She knows true safety includes addressing trauma, improving mental health, and building strong relationships among students, staff, and families.

Her approach includes:

  • Expanding mental health staffing in schools, including full-time counselors, social workers, and psychologists.

  • Implementing restorative justice programs that build accountability while reducing suspensions and expulsions.

  • Strengthening anti-bullying initiatives and culturally responsive policies to combat harassment and discrimination.

  • Ensuring school facilities are ADA-compliant, emergency-ready, and well-maintained—with updated infrastructure and technology that supports safety without turning schools into surveillance zones.

Safety isn’t just about locks and drills—it’s about trust, connection, and preparedness.

Educational Equity

Jessica is committed to making equity more than a buzzword—it's the foundation of a just and successful public school system. Equity means removing systemic barriers that prevent students from reaching their full potential, especially those in historically underserved communities.

Jessica will work to:

  • Expand access to early learning programs, dual-language instruction, and culturally responsive curriculum.

  • Address opportunity gaps by ensuring every school has access to advanced coursework, STEM labs, and arts education.

  • Increase supports for students with disabilities, English learners, and those navigating homelessness or foster care.

  • Collaborate with families and educators to identify and dismantle policies that perpetuate unequal outcomes.

Equity is not giving everyone the same resources—it’s about ensuring every student gets what they need to succeed.

Expanded School Resources

Great schools are built on more than just good intentions—they need real tools to help students and teachers succeed. Jessica supports expanded resources across the district to ensure that every classroom, regardless of zip code, is fully equipped to teach, inspire, and innovate.

Her priorities include:

  • Increasing funding for classroom essentials: up-to-date textbooks, science equipment, arts supplies, and inclusive learning materials.

  • Providing every student with access to high-speed internet and digital devices, closing the digital divide once and for all.

  • Supporting teachers with mentorship programs, continued professional development, and pathways to grow into leadership roles.

  • Strengthening afterschool programs, clubs, and athletic opportunities that keep students engaged and connected.

When schools are well-resourced, everyone wins—students achieve more, teachers feel supported, and communities grow stronger.
